![]() ![]() A starter motor that isnt working will only start from. ![]() It feels like it still has all of the power it had prior to this issue, and it handled my 20 mile drive to work just fine. If he replaces several things at once, we/he will never know. Hello, starting fluid is used to spray into the throttle / intake area when fuel is in question. My 2002 Oldsmobile Alero (3.4L V6) has developed this issue where it will only start with starting fluid when it is cold, but once it starts it runs normally, and it will start up just fine if it is still warm. BUT on the other hand it can't dry out unless bowl is empty. Just to save my butt: I suppose it is possible than accel pump rubber/leather dries out, then wets/softens and seals. I didn't get an answer about whether choke is closed when cold.Īfter warm: the accel pump works, fuel delivery works good enough to keep up, choke not stuck on, carb working good. There is no other reason for everything fine after "warm up" other than empty/low bowl and slow pump fill when cold. Should start to fill up after 10-15 seconds. Therefore in conclusion I attribute it to holding the throttle open when starting with starter fluid and the adjustment I made to the float arm prevented it. Or if it's an old tractor, perhaps some choke linkage connection wore out, or a link got bent, or some such. There is no similarity between brake cleaner and starting fluids. Your tractor might have some similar problem to mine. ![]() Crank the starter and check for nice pulsing, fairly strong, squirt flow into container. The starting fluid is more volatile and burns in a wider range of ratios, so it helps to heat up the engine, and stop the gasoline from condensing. The test for a fuel pump is to have 12.6V in battery, take off center tower dizzy wire, take fuel hose off at carb and place into a plastic water bottle or any splash proof container. If he does get a fuel pump, he will know more. Float level could be low and that would accelerate evap. Summer temp in high 90's and elevation 2200. The first step in a 7.3 no start is to simply. Not sure if it is evaporating, but possible. So lets put down that can of starting fluid and figure out why it wont start instead of causing more damage. ![]()
